Anonymous manuscript of a suspense narrative in the first person, concerning Mr. Tomkins, a lone traveler who is being pursued by a mysterious stranger in a red cloak, in the woods on a winter night. Accompanied by 4 manuscript fragments, some of which are possibly by the same author: "The Leaden Heart" (3 p.), which concerns a mysterious leaden heart discovered by an Englishman in his newly-acquired Parisian estate, and his speculation over the contents, set during the reign of Charles X (1824-1830); "Nights A Fragment by the late Edward Howard, Esqre. author of Rattlin the Reefer" which retells the sighting of a ghost by a group of nightwatchmen on a ship; "Chapter" (7 p.) conercning the attempt of half-brothers Robert and Cuthbert Cromleigh to abduct Hyacinthia Crosstries from her father Simon, who would not let Robert marry her and who disinherited Cuthbert; and another, bound and heavily corrected, containing "Meeting the 5th," "Meeting the 6th," and "Meeting the 7th" (22 l.), describing a series of conversations among a barrister named Mr. Type, a tailor named Mr. Forward, Sargeant Kite, and others while travelling in Naples and other places in Italy and later back in London, quoting at length from descriptive poetry.
